In What Do You Trust?

May 20, 2011

It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man (Ps 118:8).  Isn’t God the only person or thing that has been 100% reliable over 100% of your life?

I think we can we agree trusting a lie is foolishness (Jer 28:15), but consider other things which scripture says placing trust is ill advised:

1.       1.  Chariots (Ps 20:7)                                5.   Servants (Job 4:18)

2.       2.  Bows and swords (Ps 44:6)                   6.   Graven images (Is 42:17)

3.       3.  Wealth (Ps 49:6, Mark 10:24)               7.   ourselves (1Co 1:9-10)

4.       4.  Princes (Ps 146:3)                                8.   our flesh (Php 3:4)

Now, consider those things scripture says we ought to trust:

·         Ps 119:42  -  God’s word is sure, reliable, unchangeable, unbiased, and profitable

·         Is 12:2  -  the Lord is holy, pure, true, excellent, enduring, and right

·         Rom 5:12  -  Jesus Christ, God’s Son is faithful, sinless, perfect, just, godly, and righteous

We can trust in God, His word and His Son (Ps 27:1-3).  If this is true, then the things of Christ we copy make us trustworthy?  Think about it.  To become more Christ-like, is to become more trustworthy.  We become more Christ-like not to gain the favor of men, but to glorify God (Matt 5:14-16).  Albeit, the more Christ-like we become, the more folks trust us – and that my friends, glorifies God.
