The Consequences of Sin

May 13, 2011

Sin results in three kinds of death.  The first is spiritual death.  When Adam sinned, he and his offspring suffered a spiritual separation from God which could only be remedied by Jesus’ sacrifice.  The second is coffin death.  When Adam sinned, he and his offspring suffered a termination of life which will only be remedied in Jesus’ second coming.  The third death is the subject of this article, the adverse effect on quality and quantity of life (Eph 6:3).

Love life and see good days (1Pe 3:10-12).  Good days does not mean a life without trials (John 16:33, Rom 8:18).  We don’t want to ignore the lesson of Job.  Nevertheless, good days result from good behavior (Ps 97:11, Pr 15:30), and bad days result from sinful behavior (Ps 32:3-5, 28:1-10).

Doctors tell us a person’s mental state affects blood flow and gland secretion, which affects health.  Going against God’s will is like paddling upstream; it wears a person out (Jam 3:18).  Notice the connection between sin and infirmity in the following:

·         Pr 3:13-18  -  obeying God leads to happiness, life, and pleasantness

·         Pr 4:21-22  -  abiding in God’s will leads to life and health

·         Pr 14:30  -  a sound heart leads to life, envy leads to rotten bones

·         Pr 15:13  -  a merry heart leads to cheerful countenance, sorrow leads to a broken spirit

·         Pr 17:22  -  a merry heart is good medicine, a broken spirit drieth bones

·         Pr 3:7-8  -  departing from evil leads to health

·         Pr 28:14  -  the fear of God leads to happiness, hardness leads to mischief

·         Pr 29:6  -  transgressing God is a snare, righteousness leads to song and rejoicing

Love righteousness, experience quality and quantity of days.  Sin, and see its consequences,
