Trust Accounts
May 2, 2011
The
heart of her husband doth safely trust in her
(Pr 31:11). What did this virtuous
woman do to create such a high level of trust in her husband?
The focus of this article is not marriage, but rather the building of
trust in relationships. Trust is
needful in every relationship:
employer-employee, parent-child, saint-saint, and husband-wife.
But how does trust grow? How
does it diminish?
This ex-banker likes
paralleling bank accounts and to building trust.
But first, a few definitions:
·
Deposit
- money put into an account
increases the balance (unselfishness, integrity, perseverance)
·
Withdrawal
- money pulled from an
account decreases the balance (lies, apathy, deceit)
·
Overdrawn
- when withdrawals exceed
deposits (irresponsible acts exceed responsible acts)
Trust Accounts
illustrated in relationships:
1.
Children
- why one son is given a
pocket knife at age 8, and another at age 10
2.
Employees
- why the owner of a
business trusts one employee and not another in his absence
3.
Saints
- who a person seeks counsel from
during a trial (remember, a fool can’t keep quiet)
Joseph built trust
in every position he held. As a
household steward, his master did not check his figures (Gen 39:3-6).
As an inmate, his warden gave him a free hand (Gen 39:21-23).
As a treasurer, his king gave him full authority (Gen 41:55-57).
What in Joseph’s behavior built such trust?
I believe the answer is found in Gen 39:9
-
How then can I do this great wickedness,
and sin against God?
When I behave in a
manner with the sole purpose of building trust, I fail.
During trial, self serving motives rarely lead to doing the right thing.
Sooner or later, a selfish motive manifests itself and diminishes trust.
But, when I act with honoring God as my priority, I increase my chances
of success.
Glorifying God build
trust accounts in men’s eyes. Go
ahead, try it. See if it is not so!
