Good & Bad Love

March 5, 2011

My son; attend unto, bow thine ear to, keep and regard the lesson of good and bad love in Proverbs 5.

 Bad love is:

bullet a relationship without integrity; when promotion of self is the rule (3-5)
bullet primarily sexual; casual sex is not about giving, it is all about getting (6-8)
bullet without commitment; a relationship lacking long term honor, labor, and growth (9-11)
bullet consuming; the end is usually cruel, costly, and full of sorrow (9-11)
bullet common to those who are prideful; who hate instruction and despise reproof (12-14)
bullet Samson demonstrated bad love in his relationships (Jdg 16:4-21)

 Good love is:

bullet based on faithfulness (confidence)  -  thine own cistern, thine own well (15)
bullet based on fidelity (loyalty)  -  be only then own, no strangers (17)
bullet based on commitment (covenanted)  -  the wife of thy youth (18)
bullet based on integrity (no element of wanting)  -  let her satisfy thee, ravished with her (19)
bullet results in spiritual prosperity (16). Spiritual fruit (18), and fellowship with God (21)
bullet Ruth demonstrated good love in her relationships (Ruth 1:14-18)

Free love is really self love; a relationship without commitment.  Free love is also free exploitation and will cost you freedom and your life (22-23).
